I spent the bulk of my summer as a research intern at the Furst Lab, within MIT’s Department of Chemical Engineering.
I worked under a grad student, whose project was focused on different nanoparticle electrocatalysts to improve both the efficiency and selectivity of carbon reduction reactions. A lot of my work involved synthesizing copper and zinc nanoparticles, applying them to carbon electrodes in electrochemical cells, and then running gas chromatography to examine the different voltages and products.
I had an incredible experience, in part because the lab environment was very collaborative and supportive. I had the opportunity to learn about other people’s projects as well, and it was always exciting to talk with other students and see what tests, lab techniques, and models they were learning about.
I will soon share some more details and highlights from the experience!
